Drip Drop Teardrop by Samantha Young

drip-drop-teardrop“Even death can fall in love.”

Let’s just say that I liked the premise and the idea of the story but to say that I connected with any of the characters is a bit too much.

It was a novella – it was supposed to be a quick read but I felt like I was dragging myself to finish it. I just didn’t connect with neither Avery nor Brennus, didn’t “bond” with them like I usually do with the characters I am reading about. I felt like this has potential that could have been explored more had it been a longer novel.

It was told in the third person narrative making it even harder for me to forge a connection with the characters. The writing is delightful, that I can tell. I actually own some Samantha Young books so I most definitely will not be closing any doors. 🙂

And by the way, I got this free on Amazon and I think it is still for free as of writing. Do check it out.

Defy by L.J. Shen

**ARC REVIEW

I haven’t read a lot of student-teacher romance stories but if all of them would be this good, sign me up then.

SERIOUSLY SHEN?!!!!

This is smut. This is a novella.
But somehow, Shen managed to pack this with so, so much!
True enough, there was not much room for character development but the intensity and power packed in such number of pages blew me away.

Jaime’s character commands attention and half the time, I keep forgetting that he’s still in high school. Melody on the other hand, whom I kind of prejudged as flirty and provocative (based on the premise) thoroughly surprised me. She has depth and conviction. I just wish I could get to know these two characters more – take a deeper peek at their histories, learn more about their personalities, see more into their future. (Leigh, I hope you’re reading this!!)

The storytelling is direct. The writing is flawless as always – fun mixed with sass and a whole lot of humor. This woman hasn’t written anything I haven’t enjoyed yet and the best part is – she just keeps on getting better.

Now that Vicious introduction is one big tease! Give him to us already will you??

Queen Song by Victoria Aveyard

“We are the same. Searching for something to keep us anchored, both alone in a crowded room.”

Queen Song

Blurb via Goodreads:

Queen Coriane, first wife of King Tiberias, keeps a secret diary—how else can she ensure that no one at the palace will use her thoughts against her? Coriane recounts her heady courtship with the crown prince, the birth of a new prince, Cal, and the potentially deadly challenges that lay ahead for her in royal life.

Queen Song is a Red Queen novella about Cal’s mother, the late Queen Coriane and first wife of King Tiberias. It is a short narration of Coriane’s life before coronation; how her life with Julian and Sara was and how she and Tiberias met.

In this novella, it showed how Coriane kept a diary where she wrote about her innermost thoughts. In it, she detailed her most memorable experiences like the death of a relative, how she and Tiberias met, the courtship that followed, the cancelled Queenstrial, miscarriages and the birth of a new prince. Her diary showed her insecurities, sadness, discontentment and above all, her fears.

I love the fact that I was taken through time and learned more about the fallen Queen since she was mentioned a lot of times in Red Queen. Although her death was not given that much clarity, I can pretty much deduce who caused it and why. One thing’s for sure though; Elara has always been pure evil. This short novella was quite interesting but it really made me want to know more.
