Top 5 Wednesday: Gateway Books to Your Favorite Genre

5-top-5-wednesdays

TOP 5 WEDNESDAY ON A FRIDAY? WHAT’S THE PROBLEM WITH THAT? THIS IS MY LITTLE SPACE IN THE INTERWEBS AND I DO WHAT I WANT. *BOSSY SMIRK*

Kidding aside, I saw this meme on Bea’s blog – CONFESSIONS OF A PINAY BOOKAHOLIC (P.S. Check out this reading machine’s blog. She always has something new and fresh) and when I saw “New Adult”, I knew in my heart of hearts that I need to create this list.

I’ve been meaning to do this Top Five Wednesday meme for the longest time but my diligence sucks sometimes and I am currently at a phase wherein my commitment to post at the right date is questionable at best. CASE IN POINT.

But who knows, maybe October will be my fresh start? Keep your fingers crossed for me then.

Anyway, (God, I talk a lot. I feel like Miley on The Voice! Don’t go Blake on me friends!!!) this is a weekly meme created by LAINEY of Ginger Reads Lainey and with its new host, SAM of Thoughts on Tomes .

If you would all like to join, check out the next topics on their Goodreads page on the link below.

TOP FIVE WEDNESDAYS on GOODREADS

This week’s topic is “Gateway Books to Your Favorite Genre” and everyone who knows me knows that my love for NEW ADULT is huge. Humongous. Big. You get the point.

So here are my picks, basically these are the books I recommend first whenever someone asks for a New Adult recommendation:

SLAMMED by COLLEEN HOOVER

slammed

Colleen Hoover is like the gateway to a lot of things. Non-reader friends venturing into reading would ask me for a book recommendation and CoHo would be my first pick. You can never go wrong with CoHo, any of her works for that matter. But I choose Slammed because it’s one of those NA books that will really stay with you, will make you think and feel and will just make you feel good. I don’t need to say much except that THIS.IS.BEAUTIFUL.

TANGLED by EMMA CHASE

tangled

This book (and series) is hilarious and fun to read. You won’t feel time passing because you’re just having fun while reading the adventures and misadventures of the main characters. If you’re looking for something that will keep you entertained all while providing a good storyline, this one’s a good book to start.

THE EDGE OF NEVER by JA REDMERSKI

The Edge of Never

Here’s another favorite. I usually recommend this to people who do not mind a slow burn. This book is quite long for a romance but you will appreciate it in the end. You will understand that the reason that the first half of the book took time is for the readers to appreciate the second half more. This is a story of soul searching, finding one’s self and will give you all the YOLO feels.

BRIGHT SIDE by KIM HOLDEN

Bright Side

This one is fairly new but I feel like everyone should read a book like this once in a while. It’s not all romance, not all steam. It’s more about life and appreciation, hope and acceptance. It will break your soul but will mend you in the end as well. This is an epic story of love, family and friendship.

THE OPPORTUNIST by TARRYN FISHER

otp3

If you think I’m ending this list without a TF book, you’re mighty wrong. I always recommend this book to people who are looking for an unconventional love story and for unlikable characters. If you’re looking for a read with loads of bold and brave decisions as well as messy and broken plots – to the point that it feels refreshing and new, this one’s for you.

And there you have it! This is my New Adult starter pack – each one different from the other in terms of plot, premise, twists and feels. When people say that New Adult is a failing genre, I just smile sweetly and say “nah-uh”, you just haven’t found the right NA yet

  1. I got Slammed out from the library Friday! So excited to pick it up. Also, I have The Edge of Never of my kindle (I got it like last year), read some of it and stopped. I don’t know why I stopped reading it but I need to pick it up again. Great post Trish!
