Here’s the thing with an Alessandra Torre book, the writing is always good.
It’s great, actually!
Here’s the thing with an Alessandra Torre book, it’s so damn addicting.
It’s addicting to the point that chapter breaks are a no-no and you would just want to curl under your sheets and finish right into the end.
Writing wise, I already know that this will be another powerful story. Hell, it’s Alessandra. Time and again, she has proved that her writing prowess is incredibly amazing; a skill, a talent that only gets better and better and better. Reading something of hers is always a thrilling ride and exciting adventure.
So I was expecting a light and fun sports romance (this is what I get for not reading blurbs early on and most probably still stuck under a Love, Chloe Torre hungover) but there’s a killer on the loose that adds to the thrill and suspense. For someone who neither plays nor watches baseball, this story reeled me in. I could see and envision the scenario like it’s in front of me. That’s how good Torre is. Every chapter is packed with intensity, with the lure to just keep on reading. Please, please do not prejudge this as your ordinary sports romance. Do not make that mistake. We all know how Torre doesn’t do ordinary.
Plot wise, I was definitely intrigued. Here’s a baseball baby and a baseball God thrown in together under unfavorable circumstances. Add in a lot of sexual intensity, angst and steam. Not enough? Throw in a killer working under a certain pattern. All under powerful Torre writing. That’s Moonshot in a nutshell.
I was a bit disengaged at first because of the switching of POVs. One under the first person and another under the third person. Eventually, I found myself invested in the plot but not so much with the characters. Yet. The chapters are short but packed a whole lot of punch. I wanted to know what will happen and how things will play out. Both characters are strong willed and feisty, both wanting to claim what they need, what they deserve. They are both intelligent and well crafted. Though I have to admit that I started liking Ty more when the story opened but liking Chase more towards the end.
It was a solid 5 star read for me up until the plot twist because, I felt that it was somehow unnecessary and disconnected. Plot twists usually make me want to hit a wall, bang someone or just scream madly but this one kind of fell flat for me. It’s a subplot I could do without. But with the strong foundation of the novel, it wasn’t really something major to take against the story.
Strong characters, powerful buildup and tension, a mystery on the side and a good dose of steam is what Moonshot’s all about. And as always with Torre – she plots, she writes, she delivers.
FOUR MOONSHOT STARS!
Baseball isn’t supposed to be a game of life and death…
The summer that Chase Stern entered my life, I was seventeen. The daughter of a legend, the Yankees were my family, their stadium my home, their dugout my workplace. My focus was on the game. Chase … he started out as a distraction. A distraction with sex appeal poured into every inch of his six foot frame. A distraction who played like a god and partied like a devil.
I tried to stay away. I couldn’t.
Then, the team started losing.
Women started dying.
And everything in my world broke apart.
