Elastic Hearts by Claire Contreras

“I felt something when I looked at you. Something weird. Something . . . not normal. I don’t know how to explain it other than maybe my soul recognized something in you.”

EH

Claire undeniably knows how to do romance and she does it with superbly flying hearts, *ahem* colors!

I liked KH with Oliver and Estelle. I loved PH with Jensen and Mia. Those two pairs really worked well for me and I’m not sure how this story can top those off or a least come in close to the two.

First, Elastic Hearts is different from KH and PH. It’s really pointless to compare it from the first two. It has less angst and less dramatic but the sexual tension is way up there! The sexual buildup will really do a number on you that you will find yourself saying “Hallelujah!” once it happens.

Second, Nicole and Vic are the pair without the childhood history or longstanding history. Given, they shared something in the recent past, but Nicole is a fresh character, a new addition to the group. How she fits in and how easily she eased in to the family is beautiful to read.

“I hated the vulnerability I felt when I was near this man. I was living with last year’s Sexiest Man of the Year, yet there I was, feeling things I hadn’t felt in over a year. For Victor Reuben, of all people. I was so screwed.”

I easily liked Nicole. If there are clingy, whiny female leads – she is the opposite. She voiced out what she liked, what she wanted but still gave Victor space and freedom to do what he is determined to do. She has her passion and she excels in her field too. Despite and in spite of. I respect that in a character. I respect that in a woman.

Victor on the other hand has always been there from KH to PH and I just love how his character was given focus on these books. He was the protective brother in KH, the supportive friend in PH and now the torn, in love hot lawyer in EH. Seeing his many different sides makes me see Victor as the complete package. He is family oriented, brilliant, successful and devoted once he invests his mind and heart into something (or someone). And we’re not even talking about his looks yet. Though my favorite Hearts man will always be Jensen, Victor is not bad. He’s not bad at all. Think Harvey Specter but 50x the sex appeal, ruggedness and the charm.

An earthquake could have shaken, my door could have been pounded down by a million paparazzi, and I still wouldn’t have moved, because his hand on my face and that gaze was the only think I felt I needed.”

What I like most about the relationships that Claire built is that they are not confined in their own little bubble. I’ve read stories wherein people who fall in love become so concentrated on making the romantic relationship work that everything else is forgotten. Claire has been consistent in involving family and friends from the start. And I love how I get bits and pieces of their lives post marriage. Yes, I love Victor. I love Nicole. But somehow, reading this and remembering KH and PH made me want to insert good ol’ me somewhere in their tribe.

Nicole and Victor are two adult characters and they are that. Adult. Mature. They are wise in making decisions and never abrupt in taking action. Aside from the two and the other characters we’ve already loved in KH and PH, the secondary characters added in here were all enjoyable to read.

I loved Nicole and Victor from the get go. Until their vacation happened. Because at that point, I was crazy jealous! #GOALS

Blurb via Goodreads:

Victor Reuben.
Most sought out divorce attorney in LA.

Nicole Alessi.
Soon to be ex-wife of Hollywood’s biggest star, Victor’s latest client and his boss’s daughter.

In such a high profile divorce, they can’t afford any extra drama. Luckily, neither one of them has anything to hide.
Unless you count the mind blowing sex they had…
Once…
Twice…
Three times all those years ago.

As long as they leave the past where it belongs, they’ll be fine. But with her wearing those tight dresses and him giving her those heated glances, keeping their hands to themselves is proving to be more difficult than either one of them realized.

It won’t be long before the paparazzi start to smell smoke, and where there’s smoke…
